Easter Sunday - Woodheys Easter Egg Run |
| This
Easter Egg Run is a very small affair starting out in Timperley,
Cheshire on the southern edge of Manchester and delivers chocolate eggs
collected by the Woodheys Social Club to the Francis House Children's
Hospice in Didsbury, Wythenshawe Children's Hospital and the Stockdale Centre for severely disabled
children in Sale. A number of the club's motorcycling members
wished to support the Francis House Hospice by collecting Easter eggs
and making an event of delivering them to the seriously ill children
that the hospice cares for. The club members were so generous that
the number of eggs collected far exceeded what could sensibly be
consumed by the children of Francis House, so the local Stockdale Centre
and Wythenshawe Children's Hospital were also included. Typically this small operation collects
more than 200 eggs.
The three principal members of the Woodheys Social Club that have pulled all this together each year are John Armstrong, Phil Chadwick and Pete Owens, and each year they try to enlist the help of other bikers in carrying the burden of eggs. This has until now always been a case of word-of-mouth amongst friends and associates, but in recent years some of the regulars have no longer been able to help out, so the number of bikes has dwindled. Although the chocolate eggs are no doubt a big attraction and greatly enjoyed by their recipients, it is the fact that they are delivered by bike that creates the excitement on the day. This year is likely to see but half a dozen or so bikes turning up so it would be nice to swell their ranks a bit with any local Cloggers who would like to help out. As the egg run itself is only short, we thought it would be more attractive if we were to add a bit of a longer ride-out event afterwards. A 09:00 collection from the Club invariably sees the delivery finished by lunchtime, so a run of a few hours and 85.9 miles will take us, via a meal break near the Trafford Centre, to a late afternoon conclusion. This of course all depends on the weather on the day! If you live close enough and would like to help out then please contact the event coordinator, but please do not expect a large organised Easter Egg Run. This is a small and informal affair, and in many ways the more rewarding for it. Click here for more information on Francis House.
Do though, make sure that you bring along plenty of ways of carrying the eggs, you'd be surprised at how bulky they are! So fit those throw-over panniers, bring that rucksack and tankbag, make sure your top-box is fitted and whatever other ingenious methods you can think up. Meet at the Woodheys Club between 08:30 & 09:00 to load up with eggs!
Big Kev & Nikki have very kindly offered to do a BBQ at their place in Bolton for after the ride-out. What they urgently need is an accurate indication of who is going to be continuing on for this. They only lives a handful of miles from the ride-out finish, and Bolton is convenient for the M60, M61, M66 and M62 motorways for a quick blast home! PLEASE CONTACT BIG KEV & NIKKI DIRECTLY, OR THROUGH THIS SITE'S EVENT COORDINATOR TO LET THEM KNOW EITHER WAY. See the Attendees table for confirmations of who's doing the BBQ as well.
The clocks go forward Saturday night, so the Sunday starts an hour earlier, in effect!
