HOMEDIARYWHO THEY WERETHE CLOGGERS

Rossendale Valley Motorbike Show 2005

Once again the wonderful people of Rawtenstall in the Rossendale Valley have brought together a great bike show, attended this year by even more people it seemed.  The whole superb day was topped off very nicely by excellent weather.  The attendees this year were Skip, Clive & Kit, Jaker (John) who was on his first Cloggers event - welcome, Punchy (Roy) and his Ynys Mons Mafia friend Andy - also welcome to you mate, Stuey and his friend Howard - another welcome - both of whom came in on the Devil's Bridge ride-in.  For the rest of us it was Rivington Barn that started the day off officially, but all the rides met up together at Winfield's car park a few miles outside of Rawtenstall.  After the mass ride-in to the town centre it was then a most enjoyable day of just pootling around looking at the sights .....

The gang assembled at Rivington Barn ready for the off.  Here we have (L-R) Jaker (John), Sue, Kit, Phil and Skip.  Sue & Phil are from Bury and just parked up next to us on a blue 'Bird - hopefully soon to be new Cloggers.

And Punchy (Roy) and Andy who came in for the event from Anglesey, rivalling Jaker's marathon run in from Boston and his 05:00 start!

The ride-in was slow but great fun, as you'd expect with a stream of bikes that takes a good half hour to pass by.  So after leaving Rivvy Barn ....

... it was a welcome rest for the clutch and throttle hands to have the break in Winfield's car park whilst all the ride-ins were brought together.  And here we met up with Stu (you were missed Lainey) and Stu's mate Howard.

A few shots that may give you some idea of just how many bikes were gathered together in that car park!

The car park is very large indeed, but there wasn't a spare bit of ground showing once all the bikes were there.

After the final mass ride-in on closed roads, and safely parked up, it was then time to get some scoff down our necks.  So ....

... it was off to the Methodist Church hall for a great home made and very reasonably priced repast.

Leaving the Methodist Hall to take in the delights of the show, spread throughout the town centre.

Britain's only remaining Temperance Bar ....

.... and its interior.

Not quite Andy's 'cup of tea'.  Fortunately there were plenty of open pubs in the town :-)

Kit and John take in the views.

Like the thronging main street.

The Helmet Park bus!

And the Hardley Moving hearse that you can hire for the right kind of send-off :-)

A lot of the fun though was just the sights you saw!  Like this chap walking his fish down the High Street.

And Kit at last finding a bike eminently suited to her stature :-)  There were also locals wearing bras on their heads!!!

After all that walking around though, you just have to stop for a coffee or tea.  Here Skip, Clive & John soak up some rays above the river.

A very pleasant opportunity to chew the cud, and have a laugh.

Especially when it came to some of the examples of other people's taste (or is it sense of humour?)!!!

The thing of interest in the river was a bicycle ... and no, we weren't puking up as a result of the 'stars & stripes' paint scheme!

And if you're after garish paint schemes .....

On the other hand, if you're after a sublime motorcycle then here's a superb example - a fifties Velocette Venum - drool!

Meanwhile, near to the vintage bike show the kids were bouncing high into the air!  Or zooming around on mini moto bikes!  Kids eh!

A real mix of pristine classic bikes, like this Brough Superior SS80 (drool, drool!) and rough and ready workaday mounts.

How's this for a classic engine?

The first of Jaker's shots (thanks mate):  Assembled at Rivvy Barn.

As the afternoon wore on the early start and the continuous fun started to make home seem tempting.  So, by about 4 pm we had recovered our helmets from the Asda Helmet Park, mounted up and were on our way.  A wonderful day had by all.

And it was great to have met up with Jaker, Howard and Andy for the first time - it was great meeting you and we're sure that you had a great day.  Here's to next year's.

All photos so far courtesy of Clive but Jaker took quite a few, and they'll be included shortly.

Winfield's car park.

Kit at last finding a bike her size :-)

How about this for a motability solution - the wheelchair slides into the back!

Tasty .... very tasty.

Kit & Skip sample the fine brew :-|

Another fine Velocette - the same age as Jaker!

A parting group shot - of those who'd managed to stay together or find each other again before the end of the day!

(L-R):  Andy, Clive Punchy, John, Kit, Skip & Jaker.
